Óscar Naranjo
Óscar Naranjo, born in Bogotá, began his academic training at Calasanz school and later attended a semester in Social Communication and Journalism at Javeriana University before entering the General Francisco de Paula Santander Police Cadet School. His career in the National Police lasted for 36 years, reaching the rank of General and serving as the director of the institution from 2007 to 2012
During his administration, Naranjo led historic advancements in the fight against organized crime, modernized the police institution, and strengthened public trust in law enforcement, becoming a benchmark for leadership and institutional transformation. His commitment to peace led him to be the chief negotiator in the talks that ended the armed conflict with the FARC. Additionally, he served as the Presidential Advisor for Post-Conflict, Human Rights, and Security, contributing to the development of strategies for reconciliation and the rebuilding of social fabric in Colombia. Furthermore, in March 2017, he was elected Vice President of the Republic by Congress, a position he held until August 7, 2018, continuing his service to the country in a crucial stage of its history
He is the author of "Se creían intocables" (2021) and "El derrumbe de Pablo Escobar" (2023), in which he shares his experiences and reflections on fighting crime and the challenges of security in Colombia. His legacy as a public servant and peace negotiator continues to be a source of inspiration for future generations.
