Bernal Díaz Castillo
Bernal Díaz del Castillo (1492-1584) was a Spanish conquistador and chronicler of the conquest of Mexico. His most important work is True History of the Conquest of New Spain, written between 1552 and 1568, though published posthumously in 1632. This book, belonging to the genre of historical chronicle, provides a detailed and first-person account of Hernán Cortés' expedition and the fall of the Aztec Empire.
His testimony is distinguished by its direct and lively style, which contrasts with other chronicles of the time, offering a perspective from the experience of a soldier. His work has been valued by historians and readers as an essential source for understanding the conquest of Mexico and the pre-Hispanic indigenous world.
