W. Timothy Gallwey nació en 1938 en California, Estados Unidos. Es un escritor, entrenador y pionero en el desarrollo de métodos para mejorar el rendimiento personal y profesional a través del control del diálogo interno. Estudió en la Universidad de Harvard, donde fue capitán del equipo de tenis, deporte que más tarde se convertiría en el punto de partida para su enfoque revolucionario.

Gallwey es reconocido por crear el concepto del "juego interno", una metodología que propone que los mayores obstáculos al rendimiento no provienen del entorno externo, sino de las dudas, miedos y juicios que se generan dentro de la propia mente. Su enfoque se basa en reducir esa interferencia interna para permitir que las habilidades naturales se expresen con fluidez.
