Masashi Matsuie
Masashi Matsuie (Tokyo, 1958) is a Japanese writer who began his career as a fiction editor at Shinchōsha Publishing, where he worked with authors like Haruki Murakami and launched the Shincho Crest Books imprint, specializing in translations of foreign literature. In 2010, he left the publishing house to focus on writing. His first novel, The Summer House (Kazan no fumoto de, 2012), received the prestigious Yomiuri Prize for Literature, an award rarely given to debut authors

Among his most notable works are Shizumu Furanshisu (2013), Yūga-na no ka dō ka, wakaranai (2014), Hikari no inu (2018), and Awa (2021). His literature is characterized by elegant and reflective prose, exploring themes such as architecture, memory, and human relationships. In 2025, The Summer House was published in Spanish by Libros del Asteroide, with a foreword by Anatxu Zabalbeascoa and translation by Lourdes Porta.
