Frederick M. Azar
Dr. Frederick M. Azar is a distinguished orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, based in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the director of the Sports Medicine program at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Bioengineering at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic and chairman of the medical staff at Campbell Clinic
Azar earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1982 and his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1989. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic in 1994 and a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1995
He has been the head team physician for the NBA Memphis Grizzlies for over two decades and was recognized as "Physician of the Year" by the National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association in 2012. Additionally, he has provided medical care to teams such as the Memphis Hustle, 901 FC, the University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College, and Christian Brothers High School
Azar has held leadership positions in professional organizations, including the presidency of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the secretary of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
