Synopsis "What the Rain Buried: A Novella."

What is buried in water does not stay buried. It floats. Lagos, 1998. On a night of terrible rain, in a small Mushin clinic with the power gone and one lantern between two mothers, a desperate woman makes a choice that no one sees. Almost no one. Twenty-six years later, the Bankoles are one of Lagos's golden families, and their daughter Pelumi has everything: the career, the wedding invitations, the marble house on the Island. Everything except sleep. Because Pelumi dreams of rain, and of a name that is not hers, and at her sister's engagement party, in front of two hundred guests, an old cleaner who has not spoken a word in seventy years walks out of the storm to deliver four words that will bury the family's golden story for good. A Nollywood-hearted family saga of stolen children and buried debts, of market women and marble houses, of a mute witness who saw everything and a mother who prayed nobody ever would. Best read in one sitting, with the rain coming down. With a foreword by Chris Omotosho, PhD.
