Synopsis "Vida y Opiniones de Tristram Shandy, Caballero (in Spanish)"

Laurence Sterne (1713–1768) was an Anglo-Irish novelist and clergyman, famous for his innovative style and sharp sense of humor. He was born in Clonmel, Ireland, and studied at the University of Cambridge. Ordained as a priest in the Anglican Church, he spent much of his life as a vicar in Yorkshire. However, his true fame came with the publication of The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman (1759–1767), a revolutionary novel that broke with the narrative conventions of his time.

Tristram Shandy stood out for its fragmented structure, constant digressions, typographical play, and satirical tone, influenced by authors like Rabelais and Cervantes. The work caused a sensation in England and Europe, making Sterne a literary figure of great renown. Later he published A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy (1768), based on his travels through Europe, especially during his stay in France.

Sterne struggled for years with health issues, particularly tuberculosis, a disease that eventually led to his death in London. His literary legacy has deeply influenced modern and postmodern authors, and he is considered one of the forerunners of the experimental novel. His ironic and personal style continues to be the subject of study and admiration.
