Synopsis "They Look Like Flies From Afar "

When Luis Machi, an arrogant, seedy, extremely wealthy businessman gets a suspicious flat tire, he finds a body in the trunk of his car. The corpse, face blown open, is locked to the inside of the car with a pair of furry pink handcuffs Machi uses for his sex games. He needs to ditch the body, but he's on the PanAmerican highway, so before he can do that he needs to change the tire to get to a more secluded locale. But to get to the spare tire he needs to move the body. So begins a wild novel of Machi's attempts to get rid of the body, all the while wondering who would try to set him up.As he reflects on his business dealings over the years, he realizes the list is long. Starting with a deal he brokered with the military junta to turn in communists in his father's factory, he moves into boxing, drugs, and other dirty deals. Machi is far from clean. More than just a portrait of an evil man, They Look Like Flies from Afar exposes corruption endemic to the Argentine state. Along the way we meet several other characters: Cloaca, his fixer, with a disposition as nasty as the mouth that earned him his nickname (cloaca is sewer in Spanish). There's a suicidal boxer, Machi's bookish daughter (she reads Borges) and his gay son, whose homosexuality comes to light when his father buys him three hookers for his fifteenth birthday.
