Now its gate opens upon a country of soldiers, archers, merchants, outlaws, knights and war.Upon the road he encounters the gigantic Hordle John and Samkin Aylward, a veteran bowman of formidable skill and inexhaustible good humour. Their journey brings them at last into the service of Sir Nigel Loring - slight of stature, gentle of speech, celebrated in arms and forever hopeful that Providence may place some sufficiently dangerous adversary in his path.Beyond England the old wars are stirring again, and the White Company is gathering.A young man who has learned virtue from books is about to discover what virtue costs in the world of men.AMBER SERIES · AETERNUS
