Dav Pilkey was born on March 4, 1966 in Cleveland (United States). From a young age, he has been passionate about drawing and has dedicated himself to it ever since. He wrote his own books with paintings full of humor and superheroes, including the one that would make him famous later: Captain Underpants. During his student years, no teacher took his vocation seriously, “because with such ridiculous drawings he wouldn't get very far”. In 1985, he entered the School of Art at Kent State University, where finally a teacher recognized his talent and encouraged him not only to draw, but also to handle the text around the images he created. Thus began his career as a children's book author, as shortly thereafter he published World War Won, a story that would open the doors of major publishers for him. Pilkey never thought that those “ridiculous drawings” would become a fundamental part of his life. The author lives in the outskirts of Seattle (USA), with his wife.
