Synopsis "The Life and Activity of Baron Roman Von Ungern-Sternberg"

Baron Roman von Ungern-Sternberg (1885–1921) is a legendary and somewhat mysterious historical figure. He was a White Army General who fought against the Reds in Siberia, Manchuria and Mongolia after the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. Ungern was a political conservative and monarchist. He also played an important role in establishing the independence of modern Mongolia. This book provides a comprehensive study of a wide array of documents including those from Russian, Mongolian, Estonian, American, Japanese and other archives that throw light on the life and deeds of Roman Ungern. The author discovered most of these documents and used them to analyze the evolution of political and military affairs in Mongolia and Siberia primarily between 1918 and 1921. The author also investigates Roman Ungern's personal life and some of the legends surrounding it.This scholarly book may be of great interest to historians, political scientists, ethnographers, orientalists and all students and followers of the history of Russia and Mongolia.
