The young Boito and the older Verdi having previously fallen out for eleven years, nearly fell out again when Boito's suggested a 'homosexual' element to the opera's plot which Verdi strongly rejectedThe two stories collide together, as the modern characters that are involved in performances of Simon Boccanegra, come to the shocking realisation that their stories have uncanny resemblances to the plot development of the opera.
