1.1 Geschichtlicher Überblick Nachdem im Jahre 1855 BERTHELOT [1] gefunden hatte, daB durch die Einwir- kung von Kohlenmonoxyd auf Ätzkali bei 100 C Kaliumformiat entsteht, co + KOH -+ HCOOK, sind zahlreiche Versuche unternommen worden, diese Synthese auf die Dar- stellung anderer Carbonylverbindungen zu übertragen. Besondere Beachtung wurde dabei der Frage geschenkt, ob sich in analoger Weise durch Anlagerung von Kohlenmonoxyd an Ammoniak Formamid erhalten läBt. o 11 CO + NH -+ H-C-NH ' a 2 1897 gelang es LOSANITSCH und J OVITSCHITSCH [2] erstmalig, Kohlenmonoxyd und Ammoniak unter dem EinfluB stiller elektrischer Entladungen zu Formamid zu vereinigen. In ähnlicher Weise konnten BERTHELOT und GAUDECHON [3, 4] 1910 diese Synthese durch Bestrahlen der Ausgangsstoffe mit ultraviolettem Licht durchführen. Doch blieb dieser Darstellungsweg ohne praktische Bedeu- tung. STÄHLER [5, 6] versuchte 1914, als ihm die Ameisensäureester-Synthese durch Anlagerung von Kohlenmonoxyd an Alkohole in Gegenwart von Natrium- alkoholat geglückt war, auf entsprechendem Wege durch Verwendung von Natriumamid als Katalysator Kohlenmonoxyd an Ammoniak zu addieren. Aber seine Vers uche schlugen fehl. Das erste technisch brauchbare Verfahren zur Darstellung von Formamid ent- wickelte 1921 K. H. MEYER [7,8], indem er ein stark komprimiertes Gemisch aus Kohlenmonoxyd und Ammoniak bei hoher Temperatur über Tonscherben leitete.
