Movido por su admiracion por Goethe, Schopenhauer respalda su teoria del color para apoyarle en su radical oposicion a las ideas newtonianas. Para ello, argumenta que los colores no son propiedades objetivas de la luz, como sostenia Newton, sino el resultado de la interaccion entre la luz y la capacidad de percepcion del observador, ampliando asi las ideas de Goethe desde una perspectiva fenomenologica y psicologica. Complejo y apasionante a la vez, este libro deja entrever su inquietud por las tensiones latentes entre sujeto y objeto, realidad y representacion, arte y ciencia, asi como las innumerables dicotomias que estimularon el dialogo entre ambos filosofos.
