Francisco Ibáñez, is a Spanish comic artist and writer. On January 20, 1958, the first comic strip of Mortadelo y Filemón appeared in issue 1394 of the magazine Pulgarcito, published by Bruguera. From there, Ibáñez created his best series and characters: «Mortadelo y Filemón», «La familia Trapisonda», «13, Rue del Percebe», «El botones Sacarino», «Rompetechos» and «Pepe Gotera y Otilio».
In the years 1969, 1974, 1975, and 1976 he received the Golden Hoop Award for the most popular children's characters of the year for Mortadelo y Filemón. In 1994, he was awarded the Grand Prize of the Comic Fair for his lifetime work and in 2002 he was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts 2001.
El Tesorero and ¡Elecciones! have been two of the biggest successes in Francisco Ibáñez's career.
In 2017 he published ¡Miseria, la Bacteria!, where the author introduces a new character, the wife of Professor Bacterio, and Drones Matones, in which new technologies reach the T.I.A.
