Born in 1976 in Canada, of a Mexican mother and a German father, Christel moved to Mexico with her mother when she was 6 years old. Now, she is also the founder and director of Leerapia, an organization that conducts workshops and promotes art as therapy. She has received various accolades for her works, for example, in 2014, her book Las fotos de Caro was selected by the Mexican Ministry of Public Education to be included in school libraries across the country; in the same year, she won the International Latino Book Award with her book Los muertos andan en bici; and in 2017, she won first place in the “Por un grito de vida” contest held by Editorial Porrúa and the Ministry of Health, with her novel Hoy aprendí la palabra cáncer. This versatile writer has had as a cornerstone the desire for her works to serve a social function, to speak about difficult realities faced by her readers, and for her books to go beyond the paper.
