Nach seinem Erleuchtungserlebnis im Alter von 17 führte er über 50 Jahre lang ein einfaches Leben am heiligen Berg Arunachala in Südindien, wo er 1950 starb. Von seiner machtvollen Ausstrahlung angezogen, strömten Menschen aus allen Nationen, Kulturen und Religionen, Arme und Reiche, Gebildete und Ungebildete zu ihm. Auch nach seinem Tod hat sich daran nichts geändert, im Gegenteil. Ramanashram und Arunachala wurden zu einem viel besuchten spirituellen Zentrum und das Interesse an Ramana Maharshi zieht wachsende Kreise. Die 2. Auflage wurde geringfügig bearbeitet und enthält wesentlich mehr Fotos, auch in Farbe.
