Synopsis "Practicalities "

It's the women who upset the applecart. Between themselves they talk only about the practicalities of life, declares Duras in this collection of her transcribed conversations with friend Jerome Beaujour. Some of her free-ranging meditations are short and deceptively simple, while many are autobiographical and reveal her most intimate thoughts about motherhood, her struggle with alcohol, her love for a young man, and more.

Marguerite Duras (1914-1996) was a French writer, screenwriter, and filmmaker, known for her innovative style and exploration of memory, desire, and identity. Her most famous work is The Lover (1984), an autobiographical novel that won the prestigious Goncourt Prize. Other notable works include Hiroshima mon amour (1960), The Ravishing of Lol V. Stein (1964), and The Vice-Consul (1966), which solidified her reputation in contemporary literature.

Duras ventured into cinema, writing and directing films with an experimental approach. Her narrative, characterized by minimalist and evocative prose, influenced literature and cinema in the 20th century. Her legacy remains relevant, and her books continue to be studied and admired around the world.
