Synopsis "Petticoat Surgeon"

Petticoat Surgeon is a memoir written by Bertha Van Hoosen, a pioneering female surgeon who overcame significant obstacles to become one of the first female doctors in the United States. The book details Van Hoosen's journey from her childhood on a farm in Michigan to her medical education and eventual success as a surgeon. Along the way, she faced discrimination and opposition from both men and women who believed that women were not capable of becoming doctors. Despite these challenges, Van Hoosen persevered and became a respected surgeon who specialized in women's health. The book is a testament to the power of determination and the importance of breaking down barriers to achieve one's goals. It also provides a fascinating glimpse into the history of medicine and the struggles faced by women in the field. Overall, Petticoat Surgeon is an inspiring and informative read for anyone interested in the history of medicine or the fight for gender equality. This is a new release of the original 1947 edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
