Synopsis "Our Toil and God's Blessing: Culture of Progress in an Iranian Tribal Village"

The tribal people of southwest Iran had a reputation of being unruly and dangerous. Little was known about them when anthropologist Reinhold Loeffler arrived there in the 1960s. Over the next forty years and through the profound impact of the Islamic Revolution, he documented a way of life that has now all but disappeared. A central theme in this book is the extraordinary progress of one village that embraced education and achievement far ahead of its time. "Our Toil and God's Blessing" celebrates the work of a talented and empathetic photographer who brings to light for the first time the deep cultural insights and humanity of a fascinating tribal people obscured by the political turmoil of the region.
