Synopsis "Optical Characterization of Orthophosphate Phosphors for SSL"

The photoluminescence properties of various Eu³⁺ ions doped orthophosphate phosphors are reviewed in research on luminescent materials based on orthophosphate phosphors. Eu³⁺ ions doped orthophosphate phosphors have been synthesized using different techniques, including the solid-state method, sol-gel, hydrothermal, combustion, and chemical co-precipitation processes. The intensity ratio of the MD and ED transitions is referred to as the asymmetric ratio, and it indicates the amount of distortion with regard to the inversion symmetry of Eu³⁺ ions. In the current work, the emission intensity of the Eu³⁺ ion (5D0→7F2) ED transition is greater than that of the MD transition (5D0→7F1). These phosphor materials have been thoroughly investigated and have been extremely beneficial in the development of LEDs due to their broad band gap and strong absorption of PO₄³⁻ in the UV region. The study investigates the photoluminescence properties of orthophosphate phosphors as a potential material for near-UV-based solid-state lighting.
