Synopsis "ODONTOGENIC KERATOCYST: Aetiopathogenesis, Diagnosis, Management and Recurrence"

Odontogenic Keratocyst: Aetiopathogenesis, Diagnosis, Management and Recurrence presents the odontogenic keratocyst as a jaw lesion with aggressive behaviour and a tendency to recur. The book reviews its changing terminology, classification as a keratocystic odontogenic tumour, and association with Gorlin-Goltz syndrome. It discusses origins from dental lamina remnants or basal epithelial proliferations and explains enlargement through epithelial growth, keratin accumulation, osmotic pressure and bone resorption.OKCs are often asymptomatic and commonly affect the posterior mandible and ramus. Radiographs may show unilocular or multilocular radiolucencies with scalloped borders and limited expansion. Diagnosis requires histopathological confirmation, typically showing a thin parakeratinized lining, palisaded basal cells and satellite cysts.Treatment includes decompression, marsupialization, enucleation, peripheral ostectomy, Carnoy's solution, cryotherapy, topical 5-fluorouracil and resection. Simple enucleation has a higher recurrence risk, while adjunctive methods may improve control. Management should balance recurrence against morbidity, with prolonged or lifelong follow-up.
