Todas ellas han sido revisadas concienzudamente, a la luz del voluminoso aparato de notas de Brian Boyd, biógrafo y uno de los máximos especialistas de la obra nabokoviana.   El prólogo del volumen ®Grados de lectura o el prisionero de Zembla¯, de Julián Ríos, es un excelente estudio sobre la poética del autor ruso, y se centra principalmente en una de las piezas que componen el volumen, Pálido fuego.

Vladimir Nabokov was born in Saint Petersburg into an aristocratic family in 1899, but his family background first, and later his personal interests, took him to Germany, England, France, and the United States, where he began a brilliant career as a poet, novelist, critic, and translator, while teaching Literature at several prestigious universities. His novels Mary (1926), King, Queen, Knave (1928), The Defense (1930), Glory (1932), Laughter in the Dark (1933), Despair and The Gift (both from 1934), Invitation to a Beheading (1938), The Eye (1937), The Enchanter (1939), The Real Life of Sebastian Knight (1941) and Ultima Thule (1942) preceded the monumental success of Lolita (1955) which allowed him to leave teaching and fully dedicate himself to his writing vocation. Later came Pnin (1957), Pale Fire (1962), Ada or Ardor (1969), Transparent Things (1972), Look at the Harlequins! (1974). Among his non-fiction works, his autobiography Speak, Memory (1951) and literary essays such as Nikolai Gogol (1944) or his courses on European literature, on Don Quixote or on Russian literature stand out. In 1961, he moved to Switzerland, where he died in 1977. In 2009, his son Dmitri agreed to the publication of his unfinished novel, The Original of Laura.

Enrique Murillo (nacido en Barcelona en 1944) es un editor, traductor, escritor y periodista cultural con más de medio siglo de trayectoria en la industria editorial española. Su extensa carrera comenzó en los años 60 y 70, cuando trabajó como lector para editoriales importantes como Seix Barral y colaboró estrechamente con figuras clave del sector, lo que le permitió comprender desde dentro el funcionamiento de la edición de libros.

Murillo fue colaborador durante casi diez años en Anagrama, donde desempeñó diversas funciones editoriales, y más tarde ocupó cargos directivos y ejecutivos en grupos como Bertelsmann, Planeta y Santillana. También fundó la editorial independiente Los Libros del Lince y participó en la creación del suplemento cultural que luego se conocería como Babelia.

A lo largo de su carrera, ha sido testigo de la evolución del mundo editorial en España, conoce de primera mano sus prácticas internas y ha trabajado con autores y títulos destacados.

Su obra Personaje secundario. La oscura trastienda de la edición (2025) combina memoria profesional y crónica crítica, ofreciendo una mirada franca sobre la trastienda del negocio editorial, la relación con autores y editores, y los cambios estructurales del sector.
