NO ONE LIVES IN APARTMENT FOURTEEN - D.M. Vale

Mara Keene was twelve when her little brother died in the Alder House fire. Twenty-five years later, a letter arrives in his handwriting.

He says he’s still there. He needs her to come before Monday.

Inside the envelope is a warm key to Apartment Fourteen. But Alder House was demolished years ago, and Jonah was only nine when he died.

Mara returns to her hometown expecting a cruel prank. Instead, she finds the building standing in an alley too narrow to hold it. Inside are familiar stairs, a clock stuck at six thirteen, and a caretaker who seems to have been expecting her.

Finding Jonah means going back through the night Mara has never fully remembered. The official account says she left him behind. Her family believed it. So did she.

But someone changed the records. People are missing from them. And behind the door to Apartment Fourteen, something has been keeping their places.
