Tradicionalmente se ha dicho que las «tres fuentes» de Marx fueron la filosofía clásica alemana, el socialismo francés y la economía política inglesa. Que se inspiró en estas tres grandes corrientes está fuera de toda duda. Pero ¿son solo estas tres corrientes de pensamiento las que gravitaron sobre el fundador de la concepción materialista de la historia? En realidad, además de esa tres fuentes, de las que Marx habría derivado el democratismo igualitario y la idea de una asociación fundada en la participación directa de los ciudadanos en la toma de decisiones (Rousseau), el método dialéctico y la importancia decisiva de la historia (Hegel), y la idea según la cual el fundamento de la propiedad es el trabajo (Adam Smith y después David Ricardo), aparece una cuarta fuente, a la que no se le ha prestado la debida atención: Epicuro, de quien tomó la idea de un «materialismo de la libertad», un materialismo que hace hincapié en la importancia de la praxis y que se metaforiza en la teoría del 'clinamen'.

Diego Fusaro (Turin, June 15, 1983) is an Italian philosopher, writer, and essayist specialized in Philosophy of History and History of Philosophy. He studied at the "Vittorio Alfieri" High School in Turin and continued his education at the University of Turin and the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. Currently, he is a professor of History of Philosophy at the Institute of Strategic and Political High Studies in Milan.

Among his most notable works is "I Hate Resilience: Against the Mystique of Endurance" (2023), where he criticizes the use of the concept of resilience in contemporary society. Other notable titles include "Welcome Marx" (2009) and "Being without Time: Acceleration of History and Life" (2010), both in the genre of philosophical essay.
