Dennis O'Neil (1939-2020) was an influential American comic book writer and editor, particularly known for his work in the DC Comics universe. Throughout his career, O'Neil redefined classic characters, adding greater depth to their stories. He is famous for his collaborations with Neal Adams on the Green Lantern/Green Arrow saga, which addressed social and political issues in an innovative way. He is also recognized for his work on Batman, where he reintroduced the character with a darker and more realistic vision, transforming his image and narrative.

Among his most notable works are The Return of Ra's al Ghul (1971) and Batman: Knightfall (1993), which cemented his place as a key figure in superhero comics. His serious and thoughtful approach also marked his influence on other characters like The Question and Justice League of America. Although O'Neil did not receive major awards in his career, his legacy endures through the impact he had on comic book storytelling.
