Único libro de cuentos de Viñas, editado por primera vez en1963 por Editorial Jamcana. Su autor, que se ha destacado como crítico literario, ha publicado además una importante obra narrativa, que lo muestra como un intelectual comprometido con la realidad social y política argentina. Su primera novela, "Cayó sobre su rostro", mereció el Primer Premio Municipal de Novela, el Premio Gerchunoff y el Premio Nacional deNarrativa. Por "Hombres a caballo" mereció el Premio Casa de las Américas 1967. Su novela más reciente es "Tartabul o los últimos argentinos del siglo XX". También es importante su obra teatral. Esta reedición, en homenaje a los 80 años del nacimiento de Viñas, mantiene la ilustración de tapa por Carlos Alonso y agrega el prólogo de Roberto Fontanarrosa.
