Synopsis "Luther Lehrt Predigen(d) (in German)"

Luther lehrt predigen(d). Mit Beitragen von Roland Lehmann, Jonathan Reinert, Hellmut Zschoch, Jonathan Mumme, Albrecht Grozinger und Oswald Bayer. English summary: Martin Luther not only pushed preaching of the Gospel into the center of the church in a new way, but also preached a lot himself between 1511 and 1546. More than 2000 sermons have been handed down. Sermons should - as Luther writes in the preface to the Advent Postil - be "edifying and argumentative" and furnish "bread and sword, pasture and weapons". In particular, the preacher should make the meaning of the gospel understandable, convey the essence and story of Jesus, and pass on God's salvation in the promise of grace. Luther teaches preaching and thereby expresses fundamental Reformation concerns in pastoral responsibility in a different way, but just as clearly as in his other scholarly work. In this sense, it is true "that the greatest service to God is preaching" (WA 237, 29-32). Luther teaches preaching.
