Synopsis "Landscape Lab: Drawing, Perception and Design for the Next Landscape Models (Urban and Landscape Perspectives) "

The book studies the relationship between the sciences of representation and the strategy of landscape valorisation. The topic is connected to the theme of the image of the city extended in the territory-scale and applied in Umbria cases study (IT), where cultural heritage and nature try to find dynamic balances. The study wants to demonstrate how landscape represents an interpretation of a process of meaning, product of the relationships between man and his places. The work starts from the hypothesis that it possible to describe these connections transposing the Vitruvian triad of utility, solidity and beauty: Firmitas is associable to the environment, because the same is as solid as healthy, not polluted; Utilitas is owned by territories, useful for man, in front of his social, economic and political meaning; Venustas can be linked to the landscape, in the relation between man and context connected to perception and beauty as critical interpretation of the vision. Considering landscape as a palimpsest of signs and texts, the problem of its image acquires a purely representative and linguistic value, as a result of the adaptation of the code that generated it. The interpretative analysis, which becomes stronger by a multidisciplinary research and cooperation, is turned into case studies, places where it is possible to enhance the quality of redevelopment of those places that the story conveys. In the tension between "text-landscape" and "landscape-metalanguage", this volume helps to interpret the significance of space, with particular emphasis on the effects inevitably produced by the instrument.
