La cultura moderna de América Latina es una obra que consta de tres volúmenes en los cuales se analiza en profundidad la dimensión cultural, comprendiendo tanto la productividad simbólica de los individuos que la viven, así también, cómo esta se plasma en los discursos de los y las intelectuales de la región, desde fines del siglo XIX hasta la historia reciente. El primer volumen corresponde a La primera modernidad y abarca desde 1870 hasta 1920; el segundo volumen a La segunda modernidad y abarca desde 1920 hasta 1973 y, por último, el tercer volumen a La tercera modernidad y abarca desde 1973 hasta 2020.

Este tercer volumen está dedicado a la tercera modernidad, que abarca desde la cultura nacida de la demolición del Estado nacional y popular del período anterior hasta la cultura que emerge en medio del empate de la correlación de fuerzas entre una perspectiva neoliberal que, habiéndola hecho suya las clases dominantes locales y avalada por el capitalismo internacional, ha estado tratando de asentarse desde los años setenta, y una resistencia que en la mayor parte de los países de la región ha impedido que se imponga por completo, pero sin demostrarse al mismo tiempo en condiciones de producir una opción viable de reemplazo.

Grínor Rojo holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Iowa, United States (1971). His areas of expertise include Literature and culture in Latin America, Critical theory, and Latin American Theater. He is the author of over 150 publications, including articles, book chapters, and books. Among them, the most recent are: Critical History of Chilean Literature. Vol. I. The Colonial Era. Santiago de Chile. LOM Editores, 2017, co-edited with Carol Arcos; The Novels of the Dictatorship and Post-Dictatorship in Chile. Vol. I. Santiago de Chile. Among the courses he has taught recently are: Theory of the Novel, Theory of Poetry, and Latin American Culture of the Second Modernity: 1920-1973.
