Das vollständige Fehlen oder Vorhandensein spärlicher und unzuverlässiger historischer hydrometeorologischer Daten war die grö te Einschränkung bei der Planung und Gestaltung von Projekten zur Entwicklung der Wasserressourcen in Eritrea. Die verfügbaren Daten weisen erhebliche Lücken in den Zeitreihen auf, was hydrologische Analysen und Planungen unmöglich macht. Erschwerend kommt hinzu, dass viele der bestehenden hydrometeorologischen Stationen nicht funktionsfähig sind. Daher haben die Autoren versucht, die Anwendbarkeit der geomorphologischen Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph (GIUH) in Verbindung mit dem Nash-Modell in einem der wichtigsten eritreischen Becken zur Ableitung der Unit Hydrograph zu testen.
