Oliver Napoleon Hill was born on October 26, 1883 in Wise County, Virginia, United States. He grew up in a humble family and faced a difficult childhood after the death of his mother, but his perseverance and ambition led him to become one of the most influential authors in the self-help and personal development genre of the 20th century.

Hill began his career as a local reporter and, according to his own account, was tasked with interviewing Andrew Carnegie, who supposedly entrusted him with the principles of success.
