Naoki Urasawa was born on January 2, 1960 in Fuchu, Tokyo, Japan. From a young age, he showed an exceptional inclination for drawing, copying the comics of Osamu Tezuka and developing an artistic sensitivity that would lead him to revolutionize Japanese manga. He studied Economics at Meisei University, but soon set aside any other career to fully dedicate himself to manga creation, after winning the Shogakukan award for new artists in 1982.

He is known for his ability to combine suspense, intrigue, and psychological depth in stories that explore the limits of morality and identity. He has worked closely with editor and screenwriter Takashi Nagasaki, and is considered one of the authors who have changed the history of manga. His narrative is characterized by complex plots, multifaceted characters, and meticulous attention to detail.

His most important works are: Yawara! (1986-1993), Pineapple Army (1985-1988), Happy! (1993-1999), Monster (1994-2001), 20th Century Boys (1999-2006) and 21st Century Boys (2007), Pluto (2003-2009), Billy Bat (2008-2016), Asadora! (2018-present).
