Gabriel Vargas Bernal (1915–2010) was a prominent Mexican cartoonist, known for his work La Familia Burrón, one of the most representative of Mexican popular culture. He was born on February 5, 1915, in Tulancingo, Hidalgo. From a young age, he showed skills in drawing, winning second place in an international drawing contest in Osaka, Japan, in 1930. At 17, he began working as an illustrator at the Excélsior newspaper, where he eventually became head of the Drawing Department.

In 1948, he created La Familia Burrón, a comic strip that depicted the everyday life of the working-class neighborhoods of Mexico City. The series, which started as El señor Burrón or Vida de perro, gained great popularity, reaching a weekly circulation of over 500,000 copies. Throughout his career, Vargas created around 60 characters, including Borola Tacuche and Don Regino Burrón.

His work left a deep mark on Mexican culture, with phrases and characters that became part of the colloquial language. He died on May 25, 2010, in Mexico City, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of comics and caricature.
