Ethnomathematics, Visual Thinking and the Elaboration of Cultural Artifacts in Latin American Cultures
Milton Rosa (Author) · Springer Nature Switzerland · Hardcover
This edited volume explores Ethnomathematics and visual thinking, exposing the development of visual thinking from Ethnomathematics in the development of cultural artifacts by members of distinct cultures in Latin America. The development of visual thinking can be evidenced through the cultural practices of creating artifacts in Latin American communities, as well as with the development of a conceptual foundation of Ethnovisualization as a supportive cognitive process and a means to the discovery of ethnomathematical content. The authors of this book have come together to characterize mathematical practices that generate cultural artifacts within a Latin American context.
In the context of ethnomathematics, visual thinking is related to how cultures think about images, as well how images are used to express mathematical procedures and techniques. Ethnomathematics refers to the mathematical practices developed by members of distinct cultural groups of different cultural groups. This book is based on ethnomathematics and visual thinking as mathematical techniques developed locally in urban or rural communities, groups of workers, classes of professionals, indigenous societies, and members of minority/marginalized cultural groups that are identified by common objectives and traditions. This volume will be of particular interest to mathematics researchers and educators.
