Röntgenstrahlung wird in vielen Forschungsbereichen als Analysewerkzeug eingesetzt. Durch die Verwendung abbildender Linsen kann in der Röntgenvollfeldmikroskopie unabhängig von den Quelleigenschaften eine hohe Auflösung erreicht werden. Mit einer Objektivlinse mit 100 mm Brennweite kann bei 30 keV eine theoretische Auflösung von 60 nm erreicht werden. In Experimenten ist bei 17,4 keV und 30 keV bereits eine Auflösung von 200 nm über ein Bildfeld von 80 m × 80 m nachgewiesen worden.
