American writer, Shannon Chakraborty was born on December 7, 1985 in New Jersey. She writes historical fantasy and speculative fiction and lives in Queens with her family

Chakraborty wanted to specialize in history, especially in the Middle East; however, the 2008 economic crisis changed her plans. While working to support her family, she kept busy writing what would be her first novel, The City of Brass, the beginning of the Daevabad trilogy. In 2023, her novels began to be translated into Spanish

Chakraborty's stories have been translated into more than twelve languages and have been nominated for awards such as the Hugo, the Locus, or the World Fantasy.
