Born in Managua on December 9, 1948, Gioconda Belli is a Nicaraguan poet and novelist, stripped of her nationality in 2023 adopting the Chilean and in 2024 the Spanish. Her first work dates from 1972 sobre la grama where she boldly addresses the body and female sexuality. A consummate activist, she joined the Sandinista National Liberation Front from 1970 to 1993, joining the fight against the dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza and later would take charge of the management of the Sandinista Popular Revolution

In 1990 she publishes her second novel Sofía de los presagios, in 19956 waslala and would not publish more novels until 2001 with el país bajo mi piel a tale of her memories as an activist in the Sandinista front. Success would come in 2005 with el pergamino de la seducción receiving the Silver Pen Award at the Bilbao Book Fair and in 2006 she would receive the International Poetry Prize City of Melilla for fuego soy apartado y espada puesta lejos

Already in 2018 she would release las fiebres de la memoria and rebeliones y revelaciones. In 2022 she published the essay luciérnagas
