Ilustraciones realistas de un conocido ilustrador de libros infantiles, Robert Ingpen, que evocan el misterioso ambiente de la selva. 'Eran las siete de una muy calurosa tarde en las colinas de Seeonee cuando Padre Lobo se despertó, se rascó, bostezó y fue estirando las patas una tras otra para librarse del sopor que las entumecía', así empieza esta obra, que ya en la primeras líneas consigue captar la atención del lector gracias a la original descripción de los animales salvajes, los cuales, al mismo tiempo, presentan muchos rasgos humanos, por lo que suelen resultar muy próximos a todo aquel que lee este libro. El protagonista es Mowgli, el niño adoptado por una manada de lobos en la India después de ser atacado por el temible tigre Shere Khan, que se convertirá en su gran enemigo. Pero Mowgli cuenta además con muchos amigos, como el viejo oso pardo Baloo, que le enseña la Ley de la selva, o Bagheera, la astuta pantera negra, que no dudarán en ayudarle cuando se encuentre en peligro.

Bombay, (1865-1936). Rudyard Kipling wrote novels, poems, and stories mainly set in India and Burma during the British rule. Kipling was a prolific and popular writer, and his literature always revolves around three axes: patriotism, the duty of the English to lead a life of intense activity, and the destiny of England, called to be a great empire. His insistence on this last aspect was undoubtedly an echo of the Victorian past, and severely damaged his reputation as a writer, despite being the first British author awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
