De profesión pedagogo, discípulo del gran Pestalozzi, inició en el estudio de los fenómenos mediúmnicos en 1854, con el espíritu analítico que le caracterizaba. De esos estudios y observaciones dedujo toda una filosofía a la que dio nombre de Espiritismo ?vocablo que él creó-. Sus obras, que forman la Codificación espiritista, son El libro de los Espíritus, (1857), Qué es el espiritismo (1859), El libro de los médiums (1861), El Evangelio según el espiritismo (1864), El cielo y el Infierno (1865), El Génesis (1868) y Obras Póstumas (1890). La presente obra está destinada a facilitar el camino a aquellas personas que, ocupándose del espiritismo, desean entrar por sí mismas en comunicación con los Espíritus. Como él mismo dijo, este libro está dirigido a las personas que ven en el espiritismo un fin serio, que comprenden toda su gravedad, y las comunicaciones con el mundo invisible no les sirven de juguete.

Allan Kardec, born as Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail in 1804 in Lyon, France, was a prominent educator, philosopher, and writer, recognized as the founder of Spiritism. His works address the study of spiritual phenomena from a scientific and philosophical perspective, establishing the foundations of Spiritism as a doctrine. Among his most important books is "The Spirits' Book" (1857), a fundamental work that compiles spiritual principles and reflections on life, the soul, and existence.

Throughout his life, Kardec published other essential texts, such as "The Book of Mediums" (1861) and "The Gospel According to Spiritism" (1864), which complement and deepen the Spiritist principles.
