La tormenta desnuda lo que permanecía escondido: mientras uno reniega de la situación, el otro se hunde en la vida cotidiana de Acapulco. Esta novela es una alegoría extraordinaria del México de fin de siglo. La travesía, la tormenta, la transformación de los personajes y sus aventuras, al lado de dos gringas que vacacionan en el puerto, son narradas con la soltura extraordinaria y el humor exquisito que caracterizan la narrativa de José Agustín. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION A publisher and his partner travel to Acapulco under the pretext of conducting an interview. The sunny days expected will be wiped out by a hurricane that will alter their view of the world. Same as other novels by José Agustín, Two Hours of Sun matures slowly. The protagonists, a yuppie publisher and his partner, visit Acapulco with the pretext of writing an article about the port's shadowy places, looking to have a good time. The journey, both real and symbolic, is the backbone of the plot. In Two Hours of Sun, the desires of both protagonists get lost in the inexcusable coldness of fate: a hurricane thrashes the port and changes the plans of the two travelers. The storm unveils what had remained hidden--while one complains about the situation, the other plunges into Acapulco's everyday life. This novel is a wonderful allegory of Mexico at the end of the twentieth century. The trip, the storm, the transformations and adventures of the characters, accompanied by two gringas vacationing at the port, are narrated with the extraordinary ease and exquisite humor characteristic of José Agustín's narrative.

José Agustín was born in Acapulco in 1944. Less than two decades later, he began publishing, positioning himself at the forefront of his generation. He was a member of the literary workshop of Juan José Arreola, who published his first novel, La tumba, in 1964. He has been a fellow of the Mexican Writers' Center and the Fulbright and Guggenheim foundations. He has written plays and screenplays, directing various projects in this field. Among his works are De perfil (1966), Inventando que sueño (1968), Se está haciendo tarde (final en laguna) (1973, Dos Océanos Award at the Biarritz Festival), El rey se acerca a su templo (1975), Cerca del fuego (1986), El rock de la cárcel (1986), No hay censura (1988), La miel derramada (1992), La panza del Tepozteco (1993), Dos horas de sol (1994), La contracultura en México (1996), Cuentos completos (2001), Los grandes discos del rock (2001), Vida con mi viuda (2004, Mazatlán Literature Prize) and Armablanca (2006). He has published essays and historical chronicles, notably the three volumes of Tragicomedia mexicana (1990, 1992, 1998). In 2011, he received the National Prize for Sciences and Arts in the field of Linguistics and Literature and the medals for Merit in Fine Arts and Artistic Merit from the Legislative Assembly of the D.F.
