Damit deren Modelle zu korrekten Lösungen kommen, müssen jedoch einige restriktive Annahmen bezüglich des Finanzmarktes und des dort agierenden Investors gemacht werden. Die Kapitalmarkttheorie begründet sich auf der Theorie der Portfolio- Selektion von Markowitz und dem Indexmodell von Sharpe. Das wichtigste Preisbildungsmodell ist das CAPM.
