El manuscrito original de este Diario filosófico, que la crítica especializada ha comparado a los fragmentos póstumos de Nietzsche, las anotaciones privadas de Wittgenstein o los apuntes preparatorios para el Libro de los pasajes de Walter Benjamin, está formado por un conjunto de 28 cuadernos que durante largo tiempo se creyeron perdidos. No se trata de un diario íntimo, sino más bien de los materiales de trabajo que la autora redactó durante 23 años, entre 1950 y 1973.
El lector podrá asistir al desarrollo del pensamiento arendtiano a través de sus lecturas, reflexiones, aforismos y poemas. Diario filosófico supone un interesante testimonio de la actividad intelectual de una de las figuras clave de la filosofía política contemporánea, cuyo análisis de la caída en la barbarie del totalitarismo y de las condiciones necesarias para la libertad democrática sigue plenamente vigente.

(Hannover, Germany, 1906 - New York, United States, 1975) Arendt has established herself as one of the fundamental reference points for the understanding of political philosophy. Born in Hannover, she studied in Marburg, Freiburg, and Heidelberg, where she graduated in Philosophy. In 1933, when the Nazis came to power, she emigrated to Paris. Later, she settled in the United States, where she directed the Conference on Jewish Relations (1944-1946) and also the Jewish Cultural Reconstruction Inc. She was a professor at the University of Chicago and also taught at Columbia, Princeton, and Berkeley.
