Evelyn Waugh (1903–1966) was a British novelist known for his sharp social satire and elegant prose. Educated at Lancing College and Hertford College, Oxford, he briefly worked as a teacher before fully dedicating himself to writing. His experiences in World War II notably influenced his work, especially in the Sword of Honour trilogy (1952–1961).

Among his most notable works are Decline and Fall (1928), A Handful of Dust (1934), Scoop (1938), and Brideshead Revisited (1945), the latter considered one of his most influential novels. He also wrote biographies, travel books, and short stories, establishing himself as a central figure in 20th-century English literature.
