Hans Jonas (1903-1993) was a German philosopher known for his studies in ethics, metaphysics, and philosophy of biology. His most influential work, The Imperative of Responsibility (1979), proposes an ethics for the technological age, urging humanity to take responsibility for the future of the planet. Another important book is The Phenomenon of Life (1966), where he explores the connection between biology and philosophy.

Jonas also wrote Memoirs (2003, posthumous), where he recounts his experience as a Jew in Nazi Germany and his exile. His works belong to the field of philosophy, with an emphasis on ethics, bioethics, and phenomenology. His thought has been key in debates about the impact of technology and sustainability.
