Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904) was a master of the short story and one of the great innovators of modern narrative. A doctor by profession, he developed a literary work focused on the sharp observation of everyday life, psychological nuances, and contained emotions. In "Chekhov's Stories", a collection that may vary depending on the edition, essential tales such as The Lady with the Dog (1899), Sorrow (1886), and Ward No. 6 (1892) are included, showcasing his austere, ironic, and deeply human style.

His main genre was the short story, though he also wrote highly successful plays. He never sought awards or fame, but his influence extends from Hemingway to Carver. His literature, without ostentation, leaves a silent and lasting imprint.
