Antoine François Prévost (1697-1763), known as Abbé Prévost, was an 18th-century French novelist and historian. He is famous for his work Manon Lescaut (1731), a novel that blends romance and tragedy, considered a classic of French literature. He also wrote the extensive series Memoirs and Adventures of a Man of Quality (1728-1731), which includes Manon Lescaut, as well as other novels and stories influenced by sentimentalism and social criticism.

His innovative narrative style and exploration of character psychology made him an influential figure in the literature of his time. Prévost combined his religious training with a deep interest in human passion, earning him a prominent place in the literature of the Age of Enlightenment.
