Synopsis "Chronic Pedalitis: One Man's Affliction"

IMAGINE DIVORCING YOUR CAR and house, marrying your bicycle, and then simply pedaling away. Waite's done so and it's been conjugal bliss. Of course, as in any marriage, there have been a few bumps in the road -- run-ins with Homeland Security, Car People, and even fellow velophiliacs. Waite invites the reader to tag along on his never-ending private Tour de Earth. As a retired evolutionary ecology prof, he uses his ample time in the saddle to analyze all things cycling from a Darwinian perspective. He also spends lots of time pondering the benefits of extreme cycling and how best to emulate the happy-safe-healthy pedaling Danes. He explores whether a serious pedaling habit can really forestall cardiovascular senescence, keep anxiety and depression at bay, save Mother Earth, prevent halitosis and shingles, and even mend a broken heart. Waite selflessly hopes you won't squander too much of your own precious pedaling time reading about his curious case of chronic pedalitis.
