Synopsis "Challenges and Opportunities to the Delivery of Holistic Nursing Care"

Challenges and Opportunities to the Delivery of Holistic Nursing Care. With the influx of patients embracing integrative therapies, and the lack of knowledge surrounding them, there is a need for more research in the area of holistic nursing care. Jean Watson's Theory of Caring directly correlates with contemporary holistic nursing care, and thus was utilized in this Critical Review of the Literature. This critical review of the literature included research on twenty-five scholarly journal articles. Eleven of these were literature reviews, eight involved research studies, and six included expert opinion reports.Results/Findings: This paper highlights the current research efforts in the area of holistic nursing care. Although the term holistic care is commonly used, it is often misunderstood. This book explains its history, definition, prevalence, significance to nursing, challenges, opportunities, and how it relates to Jean Watson's Caring Theory. This book argues that there are many challenges to the delivery of holistic care, and that there is an extreme lack of education and research in this area
