Edna Mae Burnam (1907-2007) was a prominent American composer and music educator, known for her contributions to piano pedagogy. She began studying piano at the age of seven with her mother and later specialized in piano at the University of Washington and at Chico State Teacher's College in Los Angeles.

In 1950, Burnam created the series of technical exercises "A Dozen a Day", designed to progressively and enjoyably develop piano technique. This series has sold over 25 million copies worldwide and has become an essential tool for piano students. Additionally, she wrote other pedagogical series such as "Step by Step Piano Course" and "Write It Right", cementing her legacy in music education.
